Congratulations to Matheu Poust for being the science department's student of the term! Matheu has supported the department through-out the year by bringing in an incubator and fertile eggs to hatch, bringing live birds for the classes to observe, putting together the chicken and duck display for the petting zoo and caring for orphan ducks. Congratulations to the Science Department's Student of the Term for 1st Term, Ethan Witt. Ethan is a sophomore in Physics. He has a great personality and does an awesome job working with others in class. On our first three test, Ethan has helped us set the curve by getting perfects on each of the test. Ethan does a great job of leading his lab group and working with others during STEP. He loves science and how it relates to the world around us. He says, “Physics is great because it explains why things happen the way they do.”
2010-2011 Senior Science Department Award
Science News | Posted MAY 27 2011
This year’s recipient of the Science Department award is Danielle Thomas. I had the pleasure of having Danielle in Physics class this past fall. Danielle was an ideal student. She was very inquisitive and hard working. She often would come in during STEN to check the accuracy of her homework. While she was there, she would help assist other students to understand the problems. During the lab portion of class Danielle was the silent leader of her group. If you know Danielle you know she is a very quiet and soft-spoken person. It was fun to watch her group work in lab. Danielle would stand back and watch them go in the wrong direction and then in the last minute she would step in and offer her piece of advice, which was often the correct procedure or insight. Science classes can be a challenge for some students, but Danielle took them head on. During her time here at Kaneland she managed to take all of the science classes but Earth Science and Horticulture. Her AP chemistry teacher, Mrs. Wilson stated that, “she is focused, driven and always attacked the problems regardless of the difficulty. She scored well on the tests and quizzes that were given in class as well.” On behalf of the Science Department I would like congratulate Danielle.
